mornin’ merrymakers 🎄✨🪟🎁🎀💫
more decor for your december scroll. if you missed part one, you can catch up here.
this week, we are back on the sidewalks. there is something so comforting about the ritual of wandering past glass and letting brands tell us stories before we even step inside. it was truly one of my favorite parts of living in nyc.
part 2 of this series feels even more theatrical because these displays lean all the way into fantasy. we are talking gingerbread couture, parisian pups, mischievous cats, medieval cosplay, & tsa pre-check scenes.
mostly with scenes taking place in nyc. let the storytelling continue…
in today’s letter, you'll scroll:
→ dior serving delicious luxury
→ saks fifth avenue’s return to spectacle
→ printemps recreating new york inside paris
→ cartier leaning into cats, diamonds, and chaos
→ bloomingdale’s wrapping the building in burberry energy
dior
dior leaned fully into gingerbread fantasy this year, transforming their windows into sugary little worlds that look like they were piped into existence by a very posh pastry chef.
intricate icing patterns swirl across the displays, creating a caramel-meets-couture mood. the pops of color soften the luxury edge and make the whole thing feel playful.
very into these delicious designs & storytelling.
saks fifth avenue
after last year’s confusing and slightly heartbreaking cancellation, saks brought the light show back. the display runs every ten minutes from 5 to 11 pm through january 4.
the windows themselves nod to classic new york iconography.
rockette costumes, a taxi overflowing with gifts, a central park rowboat dusted with snow, a tsa screening tableau, and even a window built around an oven.
the whole thing is very new york & very saks.
printemps
the iconic parision department store is celebrating christmas in new york inn their paris windows in honor of opening their new york store earlier this year
scenes a playful gang of pups frolicking around rockefeller center, traffic jam on fifth aven, a basketball game, & ofc times square.
cartier
cartier went classic cat this year, leaning into the maison’s longtime feline identity.
the windows (like several others from last week) are accompanied by a short film featuring animated baby panthers who spend most of their time causing elegant chaos. they unwrap diamond bracelets, topple ring stacks, and paw at the iconic red boxes as if they were cat toys.
it is elegant, playful, and a little mischievous.
bloomingdales
bloomingdale’s leaned hard into burberry this season.
the building is wrapped in a lit burberry scarf that forms an oversized bow, which looks incredible at night. the windows feature medieval knights dressed in burberry check which is visually striking even if the narrative logic is a little fuzzy.
the theme is “happy together” and burberry’s presence carries it.
despite the knights being slightly perplexing, the overall execution still feels charming and celebratory.
see you next week on the very lit retail merry go around 🎠
